The Extraordinary Adventures of Travis & Dean
The Extraordinary Adventures of Travis & Dean follows the adventures of Travis Calais, son of a world renown archaeologist, and Dean Eastwick, his best friend. This is a world-hopping, swashbuckling, quick-witted adventure set in 1863 travels from the streets of London to the jungles of Central America to other recognizable, historical sites of the world. You’ll hear some inspiration from, and homage to, various productions of the action adventure genre.
I would like to create an intimate cast and I’m looking for dynamic chemistry throughout the entirety of all of the actors. AUDITIONS WILL CLOSE THURSDAY, MARCH 22.
A quick note about the auditions lines below: I have not given specific vocal tones for audition other than accent. This is because I trust the actors to take ownership of the role. I write and direct and it is the actors who breathe life into the roles. Please, have fun with the lines!
Auditions must be sent to TD@alorium.com no later than MIDNIGHT, THURSDAY, MARCH 22 (EST). Decisions will be made and announced THURSDAY, MARCH 29. They can be in any audio format, but must be clear of pops, static, and background noise. Please do not use any noise-canceling audio software.
Please also send your audition lines as a single attachment with the filename: YOURNAME_CHARACTERNAME. (zip, rar, etc)
Send all auditions to td@alorium.com with the subject line Your Name_Charactername. Feel free to add a little about yourself in the body of the email, any previous experience or links to previous work.
MAJOR MALE ROLES:
Travis Calais – British. Travis is a roguish, savvy, highly-educated, slightly self-important adventurer. Only problem: he hasn’t quite made a name for himself. He’s constantly plagued by the great, huge professional shadow of his father.
Travis 1: I’m not going to try anything. We will set off to Central America to see the sights and if we, say, happen to find Miss Fredricks’ cursed temple, then that’ll just be a stroke of luck.
Travis 2: Dean, there are three truths in life. Death, the little dancing monkey on Twill and Green, and the pomposity of the French. There are no monkeys involved here, there’s no one dead, so there must be a Frenchman nearby.
Dean Eastwick: American. A runaway from the boring, tedious life of a mid-western farmer. Dean is very wise, slightly cynical and the lone, sane voice commenting on the strange situations he and Travis find themselves in. He considers Travis his best friend in a whirlwind of a world filled with accents, death traps and man-eating foliage.
Dean 1: That’s beside the point. What are we doing here? I thought we were working on transportation to exotic destinations halfway around the world. Shouldn’t we be talking to someone at the dock?
Dean 2: Why do these things even exist? Did someone wake one morning and say: “Aha! I think I’ll create something overly-complicated and deathly dangerous… after tea.”?
Richard Redding: American. An agent of the Smithsonian, Redding is a man of means with secrets all his own.
Redding 1: See here? These locks weren’t built very sturdy- Ha, it’s a Worthington & Smith. And just… like that. Open!
Redding 2: Hello sir! A fine morning this is! You look…(unable to find a compliment) alive…
RECURRING MALE ROLES:
Mr. Comb: He’s creepy. He’s British. He’s Mr. Comb. Perpetual lackey to one Duke of Gordon.
Mr. Comb: I apologize. I’ve some how given you the impression that there is an option. There is none. You will arrive promptly at six o’clock tomorrow evening.
The Duke of Gordon: British. The Duke of Gordon. A charismatic British gentlemen of some refinement and education. He’s the man pulling the strings.
Duke of Gordon : I know that. You know that. Unfortunately, all of academia thinks otherwise. Now, how long has it taken you to organize your expeditions? An inordinate amount of time, I imagine. Perhaps I can be of some assistance in the matter.
Xabbu (zha-buu): French. A mysterious wiseman who has his own strings in place. His motives, though, are unknown.
Xabbu: Millions. But I have faith in the boy and his companion. They have done more in the past few years and against greater odds than even I could have expected. Your plan will not be interrupted.
Professor Tractenburg: German. Fantastic mentor and accomplished educator. The Professor knows a great deal and is never, ever adverse to sharing it with his students. He has a passion for life that has only grown with his age.
Professor Tractenburg: Because I am an old man and I have little patience for delays. You two are young enough, experienced enough to retrieve the item. What can an old man in a fedora carrying a whip do?
MAJOR FEMALE ROLES:
Elena Fredricks: British. The daughter of another great archaeologist and a stone-cold adventurer in her own right. She walks the fine line between rigid Queen, and indifferent Matriarch. Though, she may not be all that she seems.
Elena 1: I’ve seen that dress, Renna. I wouldn’t wash my dog with it. These dresses are for you to learn all the things you will need to learn to do the things that you will need to do.
Elena 2: Well of course you would. You don’t know any better. Demarco is a hack, but he can wield needle and threadto fit you for a dress just as well as any other tailor.
Renna North: British. The maidservant of Elena and darn good at it, thank you very much. While she is not as familiar with the world or as refined as Elena is, she has her own skills and talents that makes her rather useful in the jungle and high society.
Renna 1: No Miss, maybe someone is finding interest in your work. I will tell the girls to leave Miss’ papers be.
Renna 2: So you will take that… man on his offer? Miss Fredricks, I don’t think it is safe to work for that man.
Minerva “Minnie” Sharp: Any. She’s a genius engineer and quite possibly the fulcrum point of a major change in worldwide technology. She’s somewhat surly, and a little… more violent than absolutely necessary, but that comes with the territory.
Minnie 1: Hot pipe… cold pipe. Turn the turbine, move the piston, power the propeller…
Minnie 2: No, but I’m not surprised. They’ve been gone for a month but they could be gone for much longer. I’m stuck here, building. And here is the Jactus Capita Imbicela. Very effective! Watch.
RECURRING FEMALE ROLES:
Captain Laura: Any Nationality. Not your ordinary captain by any means. Though she often appears aloof or bored, she’s very good at what she does. Just don’t don’t get on her bad side.
Laura: Gentleman, “it” is standing before you, quite capable of hearing your words and being offended by them. Now, if you two are done being daft, I do have some things to tell you.
